I just wanted to take a minute to provide a quick update regarding the paving of Park Road and the section of Amsterdam Road from Park to Sleepy Hollow. Weather permitting, the contractors will perform their repairs this Thursday. The project should take one day. They will be doing a “thin overlay” process to repair the road. The “thin overlay” process was completed recently on Turkeyfoot Road in Erlanger with good results.

I will not rehash the entire story, but for those familiar with this issue you know it has been approximately 2 months since the shoddy work was completed in this area. We are confident that the repair work scheduled for Thursday will resolve this long-standing problem. The City will monitor the work and will be in contact with officials from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet should the repair not be to the standards we expect. However, it is important to remember that this is state maintained road and the officials from the local office of the Transportation Cabinet will have the ultimate say on whether or not the contractor has properly fulfilled the requirements of the contract.

Thank you,
Ed Butler, City Administrative Officer
The City of Fort Wright, Kentucky

Dear Neighbor:

I wanted to provide a quick update on the road repaving project on Park Road and a portion of Amsterdam Road.

First, I want to remind everyone that Park Road and the section of Amsterdam Road in question are part of KY State Route 2372 and are maintained by Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6 (KYTC D6). This project was not undertaken or authorized by the City. At a city level, our first notice regarding this project occurred when our staff saw state contractors setting up to begin the work. The repaving project was and continues to be source of great concern to many residents, our elected officials and our city staff. In short, the “finished product” is not acceptable. We reached out to KYTC D6 personnel, elected officials in Frankfort and anyone else we felt could help resolve this situation. It has been an interesting few weeks but I am pleased to say there is some positive progress on the issue.

This past Wednesday morning (8/30/17), our City Administrator Ed Butler met with state inspectors while they were conducting their review of Park and Amsterdam. Ed was informed that the work completed by contractors was not to the required standard and KYTC D6 would be working with the contractors to remedy the situation. Over the course of the next couple of weeks a plan will be developed for correcting the issue and getting the road back to an acceptable standard. Unfortunately, it may be a month or two before the work is completed, but at this point, we believe that the situation will be corrected.

We will maintain regular contact with KYTC D6 until the situation is rectified, and as we receive new information on the project it will continue to be passed along to you via E-mail, Facebook, and Twitter.

If you have any questions or concerns please let me know or Ed know.

Thank you,

Dave Hatter, Mayor
The City Of Fort Wright, Kentucky
